  • +multi-band gps locks on incredibly fast even under heavy tree cover

Cons

  • the 51mm case size is incredibly bulky and will look ridiculous on smaller wrists
  • at almost 800 dollars it is vastly more expensive than most casual athletes need
  • the memory-in-pixel display looks dull and washed out compared to modern amoled screens
  • sleep tracking occasionally mistakes sitting perfectly still on the couch for light sleep

In-Depth Review

I used to charge my daily wearable every single night, which meant I always missed out on sleep tracking if I forgot to plug it in before bed. Switching to the Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar completely flipped that routine. With its solar charging ring around the 1.4-inch display, I get over three weeks of battery life just by spending a few hours outside during my runs. It feels massive on the wrist—this is definitely a bulky piece of titanium—but that size makes room for a built-in LED flashlight. At first, I thought a flashlight on a watch was a gimmick, but I use it constantly for early morning runs and navigating the house without waking anyone up. If you are looking for a top smartwatch strictly for reading texts and checking emails, this is massive overkill. The Fenix 7X is built for endurance tracking, multi-band GPS navigation, and analyzing performance metrics like heart rate and Pulse Ox. The touchscreen is a nice addition over older models, making it much easier to pan across topographic maps. However, it still relies heavily on the physical buttons, which I prefer anyway when my hands are sweaty. At nearly $800, it is an expensive piece of gear. But if you spend your weekends hiking, trail running, or doing long-distance endurance events, the battery life and rugged build actually justify the heavy price tag.
