The mist is fine and steady, and the intermittent mode is the one I would use overnight since it can stretch close to a full sleep cycle. Continuous mode is better if you want the room to smell noticeable quickly, but it runs out much sooner. The sound is very low, more like a soft electronic hum than a fan, so it did not bother me while reading or sleeping.
