Litter boxes in small apartments have a way of making their presence known, no matter how often you scoop. I was looking for a cheap air purifier for home use that wouldn't take up floor space or require me to buy fifty-dollar replacement filters every few months. The Yaindhi plug-in units seemed worth a shot, especially since you get two in a pack for under twenty bucks.
These aren't traditional purifiers with HEPA filters that pull air through a dense mesh to trap dust and pet dander. Instead, they are negative ion generators. They release ions that attach to airborne particles, making them heavy enough to fall to the ground or stick to surfaces. You plug them directly into a wall outlet, and they operate in complete silence.
I put one near the cat's area and another in the bathroom. After a few days, the lingering odors were noticeably dialed back. However, you have to adjust your expectations. Because they don't actually capture the dust, you will find yourself wiping down the baseboards and sweeping the floor more often in the immediate area around the plug. They also lack a fan, so they only really affect the indoor air quality in a tight radius. If you just need something to knock down localized smells in a tiny room, this works. But if you have severe allergies or want to scrub the air in a large living room, this won't cut it.
