Our Verdict
Pros
- +turns existing ego 56v yard tool batteries into a functional off-grid power supply
- +100w usb-c pd port charges laptops fast and works in reverse to charge the battery itself
- +pure sine wave output means you can plug in sensitive electronics without worrying about damage
- +lightweight and compact enough to throw in a truck bed or store in a closet
- +runs completely silent and fume-free unlike gas-powered alternatives
Cons
- −useless out of the box if you do not already own expensive ego batteries and a charger
- −tops out at 400 watts continuous which will not run a microwave, coffee maker, or space heater
- −the physical design is top-heavy and prone to tipping over when a larger battery is attached
- −lacks a built-in led light which is a standard feature on almost every other emergency power unit

I already have a garage full of EGO yard tools, so buying a massive standalone battery backup just to keep my laptops and router running during a blackout felt redundant. That is exactly why I picked up the PAD5000 inverter. Instead of paying for another heavy internal battery, this unit snaps right onto the 56V batteries I use for my lawnmower and weed whacker. If you are already in the EGO ecosystem, this is easily the best power station for the money because you are only paying for the inverter tech, not the expensive lithium cells.
It pushes 400 watts of continuous pure sine wave power, which is plenty for running a TV, keeping a Wi-Fi network alive, or charging sensitive electronics safely. I mostly rely on the 100W USB-C PD port. It charges my MacBook Pro at full speed without needing the bulky wall adapter. Interestingly, that same port works in reverse—you can plug a USB-C wall charger into it to top off your EGO batteries if you left the main charger at home.
At about $150 for the bare tool, it is an easy decision if you already own the batteries. But if you do not own any EGO gear, the math gets ugly fast. A single high-capacity 56V battery and charger will push your total cost past what you would pay for a dedicated portable generator from a brand like Jackery. It is a highly specific setup, but for EGO owners, it turns dead weight in the garage into a highly capable off-grid power supply.
